SUMMARY:Volunteer Appreciation Night at the Monastery
DESCRIPTION:2026 St. Paul’s Monastery Volunteer Appreciation\nPlanting Seeds of Gratitude. Celebrating the Gifts You Help Grow.\nThe Benedictine Sisters of St. Paul’s Monastery warmly invite you and a guest to an evening of gratitude and celebration at our Volunteer Appreciation Gathering on Wednesday\, April 22\, 2026\, from 5:00–7:00pm at the Monastery. Will you join us? We hope so! \n\nYour generosity of time\, presence\, and care is one of the great blessings of our community. Whether welcoming guests\, supporting retreats\, assisting in liturgy\, caring for the grounds\, or quietly helping behind the scenes\, your service reflects the living spirit of the Benedictine way of life: hospitality\, community\, and faithful stewardship. \nThis year\, our celebration is made even more meaningful as we join the spring Student Artists’ Reception from Hill-Murray School\, whose students’ work will be then on display in the Monastery Art Gallery. Together we will celebrate the creativity of these young artists and the vibrant Mutual Blessings partnership shared between Hill-Murray School and St. Paul’s Monastery and Benedictine Center. The artwork of these Hill-Murray students offers a beautiful witness to how Benedictine values continue to inspire new generations. \nThe evening will unfold simply and joyfully: \n\n5:00pm — Evening Prayer with the Sisters in the Chapel\n5:30pm — Dinner and fellowship in gratitude for our volunteers\n6:00pm — Hill-Murray Student Artists’ Reception in the Art Gallery\n\nWe would be honored to celebrate with you and to thank you in person for the many ways you help extend the Monastery’s mission into the world. Your gift of time\, energy\, skill\, and passion bless us daily! \nWith gratitude for the gift of your service and friendship\, we look forward to sharing this joyful evening together. It is always a blessing when we gather together at the Monastery! The Sisters (and all of us!) look forward to celebrating with you. \nPlease RSVP no later than Sunday\, April 12\, 2026. \n \nThe Hill-Murray Student Art exhibit is on display April 10-May 29. Even if you cannot attend this reception\, we hope you’ll join us for prayer again soon and view this powerful exhibit.

SUMMARY:Centering Prayer & Lectio Divina Retreat
DESCRIPTION:In this silent retreat\, you will experience a time of profound silence and praying the Scriptures as you enter into a deeper relationship with God and self.  This retreat blends a rhythm of centering prayer\, lectio divina\, and prayer with the monastic community. There will be some time for mutual reflection on the practices.\n\n\nSpiritual Directors Laurie Erickson and Gwen Pickering will be facilitating the Centering Prayer and Lectio Divina Retreat\, based on the teachings of Father Thomas Keating\, OCSO.\n\n\n\nThere will be several 20 minute sits each day and time for quiet reflection and rest.  Extended sessions of group centering prayer offer the opportunity to deepen your relationship with God and self. Enjoy the labyrinth\, courtyard\, walking trails\, and art gallery.\nParticipants are invited to join the Sisters for prayer\, following the daily schedule of Liturgy of the Hours.\nAll meals and a private room are included.\n\nYou are welcome to make the retreat\, whether you are just beginning the practices or are deeply formed by them. \n\n \n  \n   Laurie Erickson\n\nLaurie received training in spiritual direction at Christos Spiritual Formation Center in Lino Lakes\, Minnesota. Laurie has a B.S. in Business and is a commissioned presenter of Centering Prayer. Her interests in the context of spiritual direction include centering prayer\, and using bio-spiritual focusing as a way to listen deeply to God’s presence through one’s body. \nIn her own experience of spiritual direction\, Laurie felt true acceptance and non-judgment. She truly felt seen and heard and was able to pour out her own heart in the presence of her director. This is also the approach she takes with her own directees. She seeks to listen to the Spirit as she listens with you to the stirrings of the Holy Spirit within. \nLaurie has two adult sons\, three step-adults and eight grandchildren. She would be honored to walk with you on your faith journey. \n\n    Gwen Pickering\n\n Gwen received her training as a spiritual director from the Franciscan Spirituality Center in La Crosse\, WI.  She is a commissioned presenter of both centering prayer and the welcoming prayer through Contemplative Outreach.  She also received training in leading the Ignatian Exercises through Sacred Ground.   Gwen earned her undergraduate degree in secondary education from the University of Minnesota and MA in counseling from the University of Minnesota\, Duluth. \nGwen is an oblate of St. Paul’s monastery.  Her approach to spiritual direction is based on the Benedictine value of listening with the ear of the heart.  She provides a safe space for you to reflect on your life while listening to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.  She invites you to listen to the wisdom within your body and soul\, as well as your mind.  It is her great joy and honor to walk with people like you as you grow closer to the God who adores you and come to know and embrace your True Self. \nGwen loves to facilitate and attend retreats\, especially silent retreats.  This is quite surprising\, since she is extremely extroverted\, has ADHD and loves to be on the move.  She has been married for 40 years\, has a daughter\, a son-in-law from Argentina\, and two grandchildren that she adores.
