Terra Divina: Praying with Creation
What if the next page of God’s Word wasn’t on paper, but beneath your feet?
Terra Divina—Latin for “Divine Earth”—invites us to encounter God through creation, extending the contemplative spirit of Lectio Divina and Visio Divina into the natural world. Like Lectio Divina invites us to prayerfully read Scripture and Visio Divina teaches us to contemplate sacred images, Terra Divina invites us to encounter God through the beauty, wisdom, and wonder of the natural world.
Together, we will walk the trails of the Priory Preserve in Maplewood (a block away from the Monastery), allowing the landscape itself to become our teacher. Along the way, we’ll pause at guided reflection stations that weave together Scripture, Benedictine spirituality, insights from ecology, periods of sacred silence, and thoughtful questions for prayer. As we slow our pace and pay attention, the earth becomes a living invitation to listen with the ear of our hearts.
No hiking experience is necessary—only a willingness to walk slowly, notice deeply, and be open to God’s presence. Please note that the trail through the Priory Preserve is not paved, is uneven and hilly in spots. Should it rain before this event, parts of the trail could be muddy. This prayer walk is weather permitting, of course.
